Some like it Hip Hop

Some Like it Hip Hop - Zoonation
Wolverhampton Grand Theatre
20th November 2012
Seats: Dress Circle G22-23

Wolverhampton Grand Theatre was bursting with excitement yesterday evening with the arrival of Zoonation's 'Some like it Hip Hop'. The show arrived in town for the last destination of it's UK tour and was greeted with a lively packed house! As the curtain arose to whoops and cheers we were introduced to the show with a curtain raiser from 'Schools Dance Project' co-ordinated by Zoonation and Wolverhampton Grand. This project enabled 22 talented youngsters, hand picked from local secondary schools to work with professional hip hop artists and perform live onstage as part of the show. The routine was packed with tricks, flips and complex choreography which was confidently showcased by all of the young performers. Wolverhampton kids really can "Move like Jagger!"

'Some like it hip hop' is primarily a dance inspired musical derived from the film of the same name. The show cleverly explores the stereotypes of hip hop music and dance through a story of love, mistaken identity and revolution. The two central female characters, Jo-Jo (Sarah Richards) and Kerri (Minica Beason) find themselves in a city where women are kept subservient to men, and result in cross dressing to prove their worth. The fun, comical choreography puts a humorous twist on the tale and is well supported by stunning vocals and original music. Stand out performances include Narrator (Ross Green), Simeon Sun (Denny Haywood) and Sudsy Partridge (Shaun Smith).  The cast are technically flawless and the choreography by Kate Prince is outstanding. The finale had all of the audience on their feet and the cast thoroughly deserved their standing ovation. Show ends Wednesday 21st November - so get popping and locking all the way down to Wolverhampton Grand for a Hip-Hoptastic night out! Not to be missed!
